My clients send me all over the world and very seldom do I have the luxury to scout a location before I am sent to photograph it. Unlike the school photographers who setup the same location studio everywhere they go, I often am asked to photograph things which no one has ever photographed. This is the experience I bring to the classroom.

During this workshop I teach how I approach situations and walk the participants through my approach. Since the majority of my clients are editorial I am concerned with the communication of content as well as the artistic feel of the photo.

Outline:

  • Introduction Lighting Gear
    • Studio strobes
      • Light modifiers
      • Use of Gels
      • Radio Remotes
    • Hot-shoe flash
      • TTL
      • Infrared remotes
      • Multiple flashes
  • Classic portrait lighting guidelines
  • Fashion lighting
  • Environmental Portraiture
  • Scientific/Technology lighting

You bought the digital camera and you have discovered it isn't like the days of film where you pushed the button and gave the film to the drug store and then picked up the prints later. How do you get good exposures with the camera and process these photos with your computer so you can share them on-line in places like Facebook or output them to prints and/or a personal coffee table book.

This class will walk you through how to use your camera's computer to get the best exposed photos so the photos are sharp, clear and great color. You will learn how to get the photos from the camera onto your computer and how to organize them and keep them forever. You will learn how to resize photos for the web, for prints or even make your own personal coffee table style book.

The class will spend a morning shooting an assignment on location followed by a lunch time where you will get time to meet your classmates and spend more time with the instructor. The afternoon will be spent with your computer helping you process those photos from your assignment. When you are done you will have photos ready to burn to a disc, post on the web or ready to be processed into a coffee table book using Blurb Publishing.

Missions Photography

How to tell the story visually. This is a 2 hour presentation helping people who want to cover missions. Stanley will help you know how to create a shot list and how to put these photos into a package to tell the story.

Missions Photography for the Professional

I grew up in a minister's family. Actually, we have over 30 ministers in my family. I pursued a call into ministry and went to seminary. While others in my family find themselves behind a pulpit, I find myself behind a camera telling stories.

Covering missions requires one to be not only sensitive to the subjects, but to those who send you on the coverage. I have found photojournalism to be the best fit for missions. However there are times I must be flexible to meet the expectations of the client.

During this one day seminar you will learn:

  • What is needed in a portfolio for missions work
  • What equipment I travel with for assignments
  • Different business models for missions photography
  • How to market yourself

Managing your photos

My enjoyment of computers and photography was joined together when I setup the first Digital Asset Management system for Georgia Tech in the early 90s. Through the years I have helped many other colleges, non-profits and individual photographers in setting up their own DAM system.

During this one day seminar:

  • Meta data and specifically IPTC
  • What software choices are there for Mac and PC
  • Categories, Keywords, Captions, Byline and other fields to search with
  • Storage DVDs, External Hard Drives, RAID and more
  • Network solutions for in-house or over the web
