Three’s a Charm!
Three years ago on April 17th I took the step to be a full-time freelancer. After twenty years of experience as a staff photographer and always having a few freelance assignments it was time to make it on my own.
The business has steadily grown these three years. While the assignments and clients are quite diverse they all have used my strengths.
Sensitivity is very important to all of my clients. All have needed me to know how to work with a variety of people. Most of the photos I have made have involved people as the subjects. Capturing the peak of human emotion in the moment as well as composing and using light to enhance these moments is what many of my clients have benefited.
Today I am also enjoying giving back to the profession through my efforts as a volunteer. I am the current co-president of the ASMP/Atlanta chapter. www.asmpatlanta.org. Also, I am one of the founding members of the Christians in Photojournalism Atlanta Group www.cipatlanta.org.
Not long ago my wife came home to see a group of photographers from around the country sitting at our dinning room table with their laptops. They had all lost their staff jobs as photographers due to budget cuts and were having to freelance due to lack of staff jobs available. I was helping them with some basics of the business and helping them register their domain names and setup websites.
I hope you see the theme of what I call my “style.” Putting relationships first. I enjoy working with people. It is a two way street where I grow through enjoying others gifts as well as having the opportunity to use my gifts. It underlines my purpose for being here.
What is on my plate in the near future? This past year I have mentored a few students and professionals through the National Press Photographers Association’s mentoring program and will continue to do so. This summer I will be teaching a college course in photojournalism at Regents University to college journalism students through World Journalism Institute.
My calendar is filling with assignments from many of the clients you see on the left. I encourage you to review your calendar and see what needs you have coming up. Give me a call (770)998-3504 or email me at Stanley@stanleyleary.com so I can put you on my calendar.
